Another Friday, another alumni feature! This week, we are proud to have Songah Chipanshi, University of Regina and Paul J. Hill School of Business alumni, sharing his undergraduate experience with us. A successful graduate and a great guy, Songah found his time in the CABS circuit to be among the most rewarding parts of his degree. Songah began his extra-curricular career on the marketing social team with the Hill Business Students’ Society (Hill BSS) . Enjoying his experience, he then became the organization’s VP Finance for 2013 – 2014, a position he juggled with commitments to his school’s council and Enactus Regina programs. If this wasn’t enough, he competed in JDC West 2014 at his home school; not only did his Business Strategy team capture 2nd place, the Hill JDC West won School of the Year! Currently, Songah splits his time between his role as a Staff Accountant in Deloitte…

Monday’s can be tough – but nothing helps start the week like another alumni showcase! Expanding on previous interviews that focused on their general experience as student leaders, we are very excited to begin featuring our past member executives weighing in and offering insight on various areas of importance to our membership – program development, industry and career profiles, methodologies, to name a few – through interviews that highlight their contributions and insight on these key subjects. Today is all about initiatives, and who better to start things off then Simon Bullock, CABS VP Finance! At the University of British Columbia Okanagan, the Finance major with a minor in Economics had done it all – Management Student Association VP Finance, Student Union Director, University Senator, Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and RA. As someone who’s University experience was defined by student involvement, Simon desired to leave something behind to help inspire…

One of the amazing things about The CABS’ network of student leaders is our growing number of alumni, whose success is eclipsed only by their willingness to give back to the membership by mentoring, coaching, and inspiring their successors. Throughout the year, we will turn the spotlight on a diverse group of past student executives, each who have made a unique impact on their universities, their fellow students, and most importantly, their communities. And what better way to start off this series then an interview with Justin Hein, the founder of CABS! Justin got his first major start in extra-curricular activities as a past VP Corporate Relations for the Ryerson Commerce Society. Impressed with the potential he saw at the Roundtable conference, then run by the Canadian Business Student Councils, Justin pitched the idea of CABS to the Presidents of the Business Student Associations of Canada, and the rest is…

Happy Friday everyone! For today’s alumni feature, we’re thrilled to showcase Jacey Safnuk, a 1st year law student at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law, and alumni of the CABS’ circuit! Before graduating from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan, Jacey held a variety of extracurricular roles, and through her varied experiences became a leader on her campus and in her community. Currently balancing her studies with her commitments to this year’s JDC West competition, Jacey was kind enough to take the time to answer our questions and help inspire our current membership! What motivated you to get involved on campus? On the first day of first year, our “big buddies” that I was matched with were heavily involved within extra curricular activities. Through them I got involved with the Edwards Business Students’ Society (EBSS), and I never looked back. What kind of extra-curricular positions…

What motivated you to get involved on campus? As long as I can remember, I’ve not been the type of person to do what I’m told. In elementary and high school, I found activities outside the classroom far more interesting, challenging and valuable to my learning and development than the core curriculum that I was told I should be focusing on. It was one thing to learn theory that someone thinks you should know and practice a bunch of canned problems. It was another thing entirely to take something very real, make a complete mess of it to learn how it works, and maybe, just maybe, be able to make it better. Getting involved at university was a natural progression of this attitude, but with a much wider range of opportunities and benefits than I had ever considered. What was your favorite part about being involved beyond the classroom at…
