CABS ROUNDTABLE 2015 BUSINESS STUDENT CONFERENCE COMES TO NORTHERN BC

Over 230 undergraduate business student leaders come together in an annual conference highlighting leadership, team building, and best practices to ensure the success of each school’s individual business associations.

PRINCE GEORGE (March 10, 2015) – The top business student leaders from 26 universities across the country gathered to share experiences and gain the tools they need to take their individual student associations to the next level. The eighth annual Canadian Association of Business Students (CABS) Roundtable conference, hosted by The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) in Prince George, took place from Wednesday, March 4 to Sunday, March 8.

“Roundtable’s purpose is not only to develop the business leaders of tomorrow,” expressed John-Michael Minon, President & CEO of CABS. “This conference is for these students to develop their network and establish a relationship with like-minded people across Canada. It is important for an organization, like CABS, to offer a balance of tangible and intangible benefits and Roundtable delivers on these two components.”

Proudly presented by premier sponsor Community Futures BC, CABS Roundtable is Canada’s largest and most prestigious student run conference, bringing together over 230 delegates from Canadian business schools across the entire country. As the first conference attended by business student association executives, it serves as a key role in enabling member associations to successfully plan for their upcoming terms and in strengthening their teams. Additionally, each CABS Roundtable serves to host the CABS’ Annual General Meeting (AGM), in which the elected CABS management team and board of directors develop the strategy and objectives for the organization over the coming term.

“Roundtable 2015 was an absolutely incredible weekend,” said Mike Jurković, Executive Director of the Roundtable 2015 Organizing Committee (OC). “I’m very proud of what my OC and CABS were able to accomplish in Prince George. Hosting CABS Roundtable in my home city, and UNBC was a dream come true. Thank you to all the delegates for making Roundtable 2015 so memorable.”

“CABS Roundtable 2015 marked a substantial shift forward in the event’s mandate,” noted Calvin Parker, who currently serves in the offices of VP Members and Alumni Relations West and VP Conferences and Competitions West for CABS, along with being its president-elect for the F2016 term. “The event has always been about transitioning incoming executives from member universities across Canada, but we’ve since developed a learning curriculum that aims to onboard those attending with the tools needed to become successful executives, no matter their portfolio – governance, management, execution, recruitment, strategy, they’re all being taught by successful alumni of our programs. I’m excited to continue along this path with our amazing members and elected team over the coming term!”

Location: Prince George, BC

With a population in excess of 80,000 people, Prince George is the largest city in northern British Columbia, Canada, and is the “Northern Capital” of BC. Its particular location has made the city into a service and supply hub for one of the fastest-growing regions in Canada, and plays an important role in the province’s economy and culture. Home to a vibrant, active, and diverse community, Prince George supplies ample opportunities for employment, education, and recreation. As the official host city for the 2015 Canada Winter Games and CABS Roundtable 2015, Prince George is destined to only increase its notoriety and influence across the nation.

Host: University of Northern British Columbia

Despite being one of Canada’ youngest universities, UNBC has been consistently ranked as one of country’s best. Established in 1990, UNBC has regional campuses in the northern British Columbia cities of Prince Rupert, Terrace, Quesnel, and Fort St. John, with the primary location being Prince George. Over 4000 students each year take part in the variety of programs and services the university has to offer.

Popularly known as Canada’s “Green University”, the modern architecture of its main campus is widely known for its innovative design. In 2010, UNBC was co-awarded the Campus Sustainability Leadership Award by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for its bio-energy project, which succeeds in lowering the university’s reliance on fossil fuel to just 15% of overall heating needs.
