Happy Friday everyone! For today’s alumni feature, we’re thrilled to showcase Jacey Safnuk, a 1st year law student at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law, and alumni of the CABS’ circuit! Before graduating from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan, Jacey held a variety of extracurricular roles, and through her varied experiences became a leader on her campus and in her community. Currently balancing her studies with her commitments to this year’s JDC West competition, Jacey was kind enough to take the time to answer our questions and help inspire our current membership!
What motivated you to get involved on campus?
On the first day of first year, our “big buddies” that I was matched with were heavily involved within extra curricular activities. Through them I got involved with the Edwards Business Students’ Society (EBSS), and I never looked back.
What kind of extra-curricular positions did you hold?
I started as a Street Marketing Team Leader for the EBSS in 2012 – 2013, then made the jump to President in 2013 – 2014. I was also on debate for the Edwards JDC West team in 2012 and 2013, and was captain of debate for the 2014 competition, where we won first place! I’m continuing on with my involvement as the VP Debate for the JDC West Organizing Committee this year, which is being hosted by my home school in January 2016.
What was your favorite part about being involved beyond the classroom at your university?
Meeting new people! Being able to have access to amazing opportunities and learning more real life skills than the classroom could ever teach.
What would you consider to be your greatest accomplishment as a student executive?
Creating a campus wide Puppy Room or placing 1st in JDC West Debate! Both were pretty awesome!
How has your extracurricular involvement helped you in your career?
It has given me many real life skills that have proven invaluable, the types of things that you do not learn in class. You meet so many new people and make great connections all over Canada.
Do you have any advice for our current members?
=Get involved! You will never remember what you got on your midterm but you will always remember the great times you had and the friends you made.
We know business people are always working to expand their networks! What’s the best way to get in touch?
