5 Days – University of British Columbia Okanagan (Kelowna, British Columbia)
The Management Student Association of UBC-Okanagan is joining the 5Days movement and raising awareness for homelessness in the Kelowna community. 5 Days is a national campaign aimed to increase the awareness of homelessness as well as to help reduce the stigma! On Sunday March 10th, following our kickoff the students who are pledging to give up their personal items to sleep outside will have their first night sleeping outside the UNC no matter what the weather conditions may be. This year our goal is to raise $5,000 in 5 days and all monetary donations as well as clothing donations will be given to H.O.P.E. Outreach which is an outreach program aiming to assist the homeless women at risk within Kelowna. Pledges will be sleeping outside only having the essentials (sleeping bag and pillow) for 5 nights (Sunday to Thursday) and will only be able to eat food that has been donated to them. Throughout the week we will be holding various events to raise monetary funds to donate to H.O.P.E. Outreach as well as collecting non perishable food items, clothing and toiletries. We will be sleeping outside the UNC and will be there when we are not attending our classes for the week!
