MAKE A DONATION THROUGH
5 Days – University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta)
In 2005, a group of students identified youth homelessness as a critical issue and also identified a lack of awareness surrounding at-risk youth. Thus, the 5 Days for the Homeless campaign was created by University of Alberta Business students. Over the years, the campaign has expanded to become nationwide, allowing over 20 post-secondary institutions to participate. Due to the unique niche that this campaign aimed to satisfy, the 5 Days for the Homeless campaign decided to partner with the Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) charity to raise funds and awareness.
Each year, students across the country forego their typical living conditions in exchange for living outside on campus for five full nights and days. Throughout the campaign, each student will be given one pillow, one sleeping bag and will not have access to showers or other facilities normally available to students. It is expected that the students avoid the use of personal communication
devices. During the campaign week, there will be several organized awareness and fundraising events that the group will participate in while simultaneously attending classes as normal. Lastly, all the food consumed during the campaign will be donated by other members of the community.
