Given that students are returning to an unfamiliar environment, the CABS Leadership Team wanted to take some time to give students some general reminders, as well as information about some of the initiatives CABS will be putting on this Fall! ROUNDTABLE IS BACK AND BIGGER THAN EVER! #RT18 #RT18: CABS Roundtable is one of Canada’s largest and most prestigious student-run conferences, and the keystone event in the CABS conference circuit. An annual affair, it connects over 250 of the brightest student leaders from over 25 of the top business schools across the country. Every year since its inception in 2008, CABS Roundtable has been hosted in a different Canadian city. Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) has entered a two-year partnership with The Canadian Association of Business Students (CABS). CPA Canada will be the title sponsor of the 2016 and 2017 annual CABS Roundtable Conferences led by the CABS volunteer, not-for-profit organization. The week-long CABS Roundtable conference brings together business students who represent each business school’s student commerce society. The conference acts as an institution for the transition between the incumbent and outgoing teams with their executive-elect successors. Meet Jean-Philippe Allen (JP), who’ll be making the natural progression from his current role as a CABS Director of Finance to Vice President, Finance, for the 2017 fiscal year! Hailing from Saint-Anselme, Quebec, which is apparently the best place to have maple taffy and touch up on your French language skills, JP was involved in his first business case competition with Cégep in Québec City in 2011. In the same year, he took on his first executive position with a student association, eventually leading him to serve as VP Finance for the Bishop’s University Commerce Society in 2014/2015. Originally intending to study marketing, JP developed a true love for accounting and has never looked back since. His 5-year plan is to complete his CPA, work abroad, and see where that takes him! JDC Central season has begun. Captains from universities across Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes are laying the foundations on which to build their teams. Each captain has their own strategy to building a winning team, and each captain is faced with different challenges to overcome. Triona Curran is one of JDCC Guelph’s Co-captains. This is her second year in the competition. She began her involvement with JDC Central in the 2014 season with Guelph University as an academic competitor. The 2014 season was a big year for Guelph University as they were the hosts of JDC Central 2014. Guelph’s rise from a new half team in 2012 to a full team in 2013 was topped with their successful bid to host in 2014.
